Last weekend Chabot traveled to Modesto College to wrestle in the Northern California Regional Wrestling Championships. The wrestlers were as fierce as the competition, with everyone battling for a place in the big show; the top 6 placers in each weight class from the North advanced to the California Community College State Wrestling Championships. State will be held in Victorville, California, at Victor Valley College from today (December 9), through Saturday (December 11). Chabot finished 6th as a team and had 6 wrestlers place, with 5 of the 6 extending their season an extra week. The wrestlers who placed were:
125lb Janik Santana placed 3rd, defeating Ruben Gonzales from Shasta College by a score of 12 – 9 in the consolation Finals match.
133lb Alex Williams also placed 3rd, defeating William Sepulveda from Lassen College by a score of 10 – 3.
157lb Craig Sherman placed 4th, lost by injury default to Craig Simon of Shasta College.
174lb Ira Goosby also placed 4th, losing to Nick Gill from Sierra College by a fall 2:14.
184lb Milo Anderson placed 3rd, defeating Adam Charles in overtime by a score of 3 – 1.
285lb Sam Gomez placed 8th, losing to Rafael Iriarte from Sierra by a score of 3 – 1.
Unfortunately 285lb Sam Gomez won’t be heading to state, even though he placed. The Sophomore Captain has had a commendable and impressive season, and will look to his teammates to take their wrestling to another level and attempt to place and possibly even win their weight class at the State Championships. State starts today and will last through Saturday at Victor Valley College! If you are feeling the Gladiator Pride then come out and experience all that is Gladiator Wrestling.
